Originally from New Zealand, long term Okinawa resident Paul Lorimer is in some ways its most traditional potter.  His work focusses on its base material: the clay found on the Okinawan islands.  The search for good clay is a constant preoccupation.  It can be found in construction sites, or in locations of varying accessibility.  But the results of this search, thrown and then fired in a self constructed anagama kiln, make it worthwhile.

This pitcher is was thrown, decorated and fired by Lorimer in his kiln in Motobu, in the north central region of Okinawa’s main island.  Its form and markings highlight the texture of the clay, and have an elemental sense of craft.

Size:

7cm Φ, Height 15cm, 10cm (as largest part of the pitcher)
