This brown sugar was made in Okinawa from sugar cane grown on the island of Tarama by the Kakinohana company. Between the islands of Miyako and Ishigaki in Japan’s most southerly extremity, Tarama is a place with a small population and a big heart for sugar. In little lumps this pack contains a simple expression of the goodness in Okinawan brown sugar. It is high in calcium, natural energy and has the firm texture of the canes cultivated in Tarama.

Raised among the sugar cane of Miyako island, Kakinohana is the eponymous company of Kenichi Kakinohana. It brings sugar from the island of Tarama, and processes both this cane, and the passion of the company’s chairman into flavourful tributes to Okinawa’s near 400 years of sugar cultivation.
