Original Mugs by Giran Sagawa
This mug design is by Ibaraki based ceramicist Giran Sagawa.
Part of a new generation of potters working in the Kasama region, Sagawa typically specialises in slipware and tightly drawn geometric shapes.
These mugs, with their two or three tone application of glaze, show some of the detail work in Giran Sagawa’s pottery.
In his mug shape the potter has made a resting place for the thumb at the top of the handle, and swirling circles inside. The line between the colours is a diagonal, or a block with variations at the fringes.
They are tagged with the maker’s mark on the base.
Each mug is handmade with small variations by piece.
The approximate dimensions are height 9.5cm, diameter 8cm, handle 10cm.
