Coffee Filter Papers by Washi no Ishikawa
Truly high class coffee filter papers by Washi no Ishikawa.
Specialists in paper, the Ehime based company have been working for some time on the ideal material consistency for a coffee filter. The difference they bring is use of the mulberry and ramie base ingredients of traditional Japanese paper (washi).
As an outcome these are strong filter papers, that achieve excellent water flow and clean coffee taste.
The paper is so strong that the filters can even be reused. Up to four times the company estimate, and our own experiments reveal this certainly to be the case - after the spent coffee grains have been removed and the papers left to dry. As one pack contains 20 sheets, the potential is there for up to 80 brews, in a waste reducing solution. (In any case the natural ingredients mean the papers are kind to the environment).
The filters are square, and with a fold along one side, perch attractively in a coffee dripper. Suitable the makers estimate for one to four cups, the papers hold around 10g of coffee. They are the right size for example for a Hario V60, or the handmade coffee drippers available at wagumi.
Unique items for the true coffee enthusiast, the filters come in boxes of 20, with English language instructions contained.
The box is 12cm by 12.5cm and weighs 38g.
