*Dispatches from approx 20 November 2025*
This calendar was designed by Toyokazu Ono at his Yotsume dye studio.
In 2025, Ono moved the Yotsume studio to his home prefecture of Hiroshima. This homecoming gave him a fresh perspective, and is a major influence on the 2026 edition of his popular calendar.
“Daily life changed completely with my change of location, and I began to notice things that I otherwise would not” Ono said. “I felt something special toward everyday details, such as the rain, the sunlight, and the pleasant feeling of the wind. I wanted to express this daily experience of nature and the Japanese seasons, in this year’s calendar.”
With stencil dye and seasons as its inspiration, the 2026 Yotsume calendar represents a return to roots. As with every year, they are beautifully presented, and bring a page turning pleasure to the passage of time.
They are 28cm by 19cm
About Yotsume
Yotsume Somenuno-sha is the dye studio of Toyokazu Ono. Based in Kunisaki on the north-eastern tip of Kyushu island, Ono practices katazome, or Japanese stencil dye. From a family who have made dye works for temples and Japanese businesses for more than a century, Ono takes his influences from the mid-century revival in katazome led by Keisuke Serizawa, and modern stencil based graffiti. The results are handmade dye works rich in colour and pattern, that offer both a contemporary riff on a traditional craft, and tap into a rich aesthetic seam.
