Wintry, and by the sea, Ishikawa is known in Japan for its richness - and the tradition of artisan craft centred on the city of Kanazawa.

Ishikawa is home to the hyakuman-goku culture.

A koku was a measure of rice, and of the stipends paid to samurai.  The fertile domains that make up modern Ishikawa, famously had one million of them.  In Japanese: hyakuman-goku.

In the era of the hyakuman-goku, the local lords emphasised their harmlessness to the central authority by becoming patrons of art and leisure.

This sense and love of expressive luxury continues today in Ishikawa. Here we present a collection of the items in their life.
