This t-shirt is official merchandise from the Coffee Kan 'mingei cafe' in Kagoshima.

Within Japan's numerous cafe sub-genres, mingei cafes are made in the aesthetics of folk art.  It means a hand-dripped cup of coffee in beautifully made ceramics.

Coffee Kan's Koichiro Nagata has such deep roots in the folk art movement that his menus and motifs were designed by Samiro Yunoki.  A legend.

These t-shirts feature a mejiro bird on mingei cup, designed with Yunoki's stencil dye technique

About the Coffee Kan

The Coffee-Kan has been a cornerstone in Kagoshima's cafe scene for more than 35 years. It is a space maintained and created by Koichiro Nagata, otherwise known as the Kan-cho (Hall chief). While he personally sorts and roasts coffee beans in one corner, guests gather at tables surrounded by Nagata's individually selected collection of crafts items from Japan. Symbolic of it all is the logo and menu designed by one of Japan's leading exponents of stencil dye: Samiro Yunoki. Moments spent in the Coffee-Kan offers a sense of peace in the passage of time. Something too that is roasted and imbued into beans selected and bagged by the Kan-cho himself.
