Maruyama is an experienced craftsperson, who in recent years has turned his focus to thoroughly thought out and made ceramics for the table.

An expert in glaze, he has spent much time developing mixes and combinations.  For the form, he has built a lightness into the piece that is noticeably when held.  

The careful design stands with the warmth of a handmade item.  With a combination of skill, ideas and a focus on the user, Maruyama is in a sense symbolic of modern Kasama ceramics.
