This popular serving bowl series is by Kasama based ceramicist Shinya Take.

While the potter suggests that the hand shaped form can used for pasta or Japanese curry and rice - the potential options are wide.

Decorated with one of Shinya Take's distinctive ash glazes, everything about the item points to the utilitarian beauty to be discovered in Japanese ceramics.

Each of the bowls is made individually by the ceramicist, and there are differences between them.  They are approximately 23.7cm by 17cm and 5cm high.  They weigh around 500g.

About Shinya Take

A professional potter in Kasama since 1980, Shinya Take has stability and quality in his work.  Someone who can be found among the tents at a pottery festival in the town, Take’s ceramics are pleasing wherever they are encountered.  Ash glazes from rice husks and hinoki cypress are a particular feature of his work, as is the sen zōgan style of inlay, that allows him to make electric twig like motifs on the surface of his pieces.  The potter’s forms are often delicate and balanced interpretations of Japanese tableware such as katakuchi sake pourers and kyūsu teapots.  All perfected over years of exploration.  A specialist in accessible beauty, Take is representative of the richly present craft in Kasama ceramics.
