These cups were completed in a new off-white glaze by the Kasama based ceramicist Marumi Kujirai.

In the kumidashi style, they open to form a rim that rests on the lip when drinking tea or coffee.

On closer look the white contains layers of shade beneath it, and as with Kujirai’s other work has a depth of appeal in colour and form.

As each is made individually, there are slight variations between them.

About Marumi Kujirai:

Marumi Kujirai is among the new generation of ceramicists who have chosen to base themselves in Kasama, not far north of Tokyo.

From the studio that adjourns her home, she works on distinctly Japanese forms that draw on many inspirations.

Her work is full of refined detail, and is characterised by the pleasing texture of its glazes.
