Koppa is the wordworking brand of Kagoshima based craftsperson Shintaro Oku.
Oku crafts wood off-cuts into new forms. Mainly using camphor (kusonoki) wood sourced in Kagoshima, Oku operates with the philosophy of not wasting a single piece. The results are works that enhance the character of the original material, and have its lines appearing on smooth and textural surfaces. He is currently renovating a historic wooden stables building for use as a new studio space, and literally, living within his work.
