About wholesale
These cups were made by wood craftsperson Shintaro Oku at his studio in Kagoshima.
Originally with a design background, Oku is a self trained craftsperson who brings distinct approaches to form and colour within his work.
These pieces are in zelkova (keyaki) wood, and combine hand painted animal print sections with colour blocks achieved by wood stain. This stain is sourced from indigo plant grown by Oku’s workshop, and natural persimmon.
The pieces are suitable to drink from and use following the provided care instructions.
About KOPPAFor his Koppa brand, Shintaro Oku crafts wood off-cuts into new forms. Mainly using camphor (kusu-no-ki) wood sourced in Kagoshima, Oku operates with the philosophy of not wasting a single piece.
The results are works that enhance the character of the original material, and have its lines appearing on smooth and textural surfaces. He is currently renovating a historic wooden stables building for use as a new studio space, and literally, living within his work.
