Based in Uchiko in Ehime, the Omori family candle business (Omori Warōsoku), exist within a tradition of candle making in the town dating to the late Edo period.

Their candles are made in a natural and time honoured way using wax tree (hazenoki) for the main material, and Japanese paper (washi) and rush marrow for the wicks. The Omori family’s process begins with wick rolling (the rush is twisted around the paper core), followed by a melting action completed by hand, that wraps and creates candles that resemble the rings of a tree. The candles are trimmed individually using a blade.

The resultant flame is strong, vertical, and each time unique reflecting the moment in time in which you light it.

Ōmori Warōsoku classify their candles according to the Momme measurement used historically in Japan. This equates to around 3.75 grammes.

These candles are 5 monme and hence 18.75 grammes each in their wax. They are 12cm high (not including the wick), and burn for around one and a half hours.

The come in a set of two, and are presented in a delicately patterned box.

The makers recommend these candles for use in relaxation, ceremonies, meditation and table decoration.
