About Yukihito Nakata

The items Yukihito Nakata makes at his ceramic workshop are constructed with the user in mind. He applies a range of Japanese techniques, adapting context and style to deliver items that he hopes will give their owner moments of beauty and utility. Importantly too, he does not cut corners, or compromise on the ideal of monozukuri (things that are made) within the objects crafted for use in Japan. The outcome is home ceramics with a human touch, such as the chattering chisel work he completes on the surface of his teapots and mugs. Nakata also takes on larger projects, such as for local restaurants, and applies the same ideals and attention to detail as he does so. Recently he has been thinking of the new class of home workers in Tokyo, and the ideal mug shape to allow a pleasant break in the day.
