This hoji-cha is by Kirishima based tea maker Sueshige.  Hoji-cha is a roasted green tea that is naturally low caffiene, and has a refreshing, nutty taste.  The Japanese name Sueshige give to this tea is ‘fuwa to hirogaru kobashisa’ which translates loosely as ‘gently expanding aroma.’  There are 10 tea bags in the pack and once brewed in a pot or mug, there will indeed be a comforting scent from the vessel which you can clutch on a cold day.  Low caffeine means you can drink plenty.  The pack is decorated with komon style insignia of Kagoshima, in south Japan, and functions as a nice gift too.

About Sueshige Tea

Kirishima sits at the foot of the Takachiho no Mine volcano range. Here the altitude leads to a colder climate, and a distinctive Kagoshiman terroir for tea. When brewed, Kirishima teas often offer a quite thin green colour, that deceives to the level of taste. The brews are in fact fresh, sophisticated and satisfying. The Sueshige family business has been farming teas in the region since 1932 and understands all of its characteristics. The recipient of awards in the world of tea, they daily explore the potential of Kirishima tea making.
