Kanazawa is the castle town of Ishikawa in north central Japan. It is known for its fine crafts, and among them its sewing kits.

Hiro is a small garment maker in the town, passing through the generations for more than 80 years.

With a total of five employees, they now specialise in sewing accessories that show off various aspects of Kanazawa’s craft tradition, including lacquerware, yuzen dye and painted porcelain ceramics.

This pin cushion set features five different types of cat.  This includes ‘hachiware’ (with a pattern on its front similar to the character for 8: 八 ), and ‘tora’ (tiger like).  Each cat is in its own pose.

The pins are presented in a wood bowl, and pin into Noto Chirimen fabric, traditional to the region to the north of Kanazawa.

The pin cushion is 5cm wide, and 4cm high.  It includes five cat pins.
