About wholesale
For the 2025 Yotsume calendar, designer and stencil dye artist Toyokazu Ono returns to the theme of the customs and landscape of Kyushu and Okinawa. This includes the volcanic scenery of parts of the region, and the confluence of cultures found to the south. Scenes include the hidden churches of the Goto islands in Nagasaki (February), the mixture of American and other influences in Chatan, Okinawa (September), the tea fields of Ureshino in Saga (April), and the Kagoshima’s bayside volcano (January).
Based himself in Oita in Kyushu, Toyokazu Ono brings his stencil dye inspired eye to the different scenes from his region. As with every year, the calendars are beautifully presented, and bring a page turning pleasure to the passage of time.
They are 28cm by 19cm
About Yotsume
Yotsume Somenuno-sha is the dye studio of Toyokazu Ono. Based in Kunisaki on the north-eastern tip of Kyushu island, Ono practices katazome, or Japanese stencil dye. From a family who have made dye works for temples and Japanese businesses for more than a century, Ono takes his influences from the mid-century revival in katazome led by Keisuke Serizawa, and modern stencil based graffiti. The results are handmade dye works rich in colour and pattern, that offer both a contemporary riff on a traditional craft, and tap into a rich aesthetic seam.
