Square Tray by Shin Kogei

These square paper trays are by Shin Kogei.

Based in Hida-Takayama in the snowy north of Gifu prefecture, Shin Kogei’s work narrates scenes from life and nature in this historic town.  Once an important castle town, it is known today for its wooded, sedate and artistic style of life, and its fine tradition of furniture.

Founded by a local artist, Shin Kogei’s shop stocking its handmade products, is a connecting factor to the past - and stands at the heart of Hida-Takayama’s cultural identity today.

These trays in strong paper are ideal as small storage spaces.  (Although not necessarily ideal as coasters, for that see here).  They are nice reminders of visits to Hida-Takayama, or as a way to transport quickly to that world.
