Wood and paper

In contrast to its image of concrete, around 70% of Japan's landmass is in fact covered by forest.  Wood as a building material, and as a canvas for craft has existing in Japan since ancient times.

This includes hand made paper, items for the table, and the table itself.  From thick beams to the thin paper of shoji partitions, wood and paper are materials close to Japanese people in their lives.
