Last month, wagumi hosted a rare UK showing of work from Atelier Densan, the Tokyo gallery and shop of Japan's officially recognised traditional crafts. Running to coincide with London Design Festival, the showcase brought together pieces from 75 makers across 50 craft categories, from Aizu-nuri lacquerware and Toyama washi to Bizen stoneware.
It was a busy nine days during LDF, and the response was better than we'd hoped. Visitors came to see work that is rarely shown outside Japan, and many stayed to talk through the materials and the techniques behind each piece. Thank you to everyone who came by, and to the Densan team for making it possible.
Shop the selection online
If you missed it, a selection of Densan pieces is now available to buy online at https://wagumi-j.com/collections/atelier-densan-at-wagumi. There is also still limited stock in store at Unit 1.09, Oxo Tower Wharf.

Each piece carries the Densan mark, which can only be earned by crafts and craftspeople who pass the rigorous examination of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
Coming up November
Atelier Densan returns to London from 26 to 29 November, this time downstairs at the larger OXO Gallery in the Oxo Tower, with a showcase built around Kishu lacquerware from Wakayama. It will include a Kishu lacquerware workshop and a small selection of Japanese makers. We'll share full details soon via our newsletter and social feeds.
